Ki, what is it?

"Ki" (body and mind coordination)
If the origins of nearly every traditional martial art in existence today were explored, one would find that the theories and principles of 'ki' training are in existence in the original teachings. Many martial artist today who are studying these arts do not understand exactly what 'ki' power really is. Although some people like to market 'ki' as some mystical power that only they possess, 'ki' is no secret. The word itself translates to "energy, life- force, spirit, and/or breath." It also represents the scientific phenomina of physics. It is also refered to by Christians as God's Holy Spirit which God breathed into Adam after forming him out of the earth (dirt). Everyone has 'ki': If you didn't, you'd be dead!

QQQQ OPTION SPREAD IDEAS GOING INTO OPX

Sunday Aug 9, 2009
Here we are at the start of the week before OPX wk.

Fujisan at Evil Spec has a bear call vertical credit spread play for the Q's that will show a profit if the Q's ($39.88) stay under $40 going into OPX Fri Aug 21. They are banking on chart work showing resistance at $40. Seems a little risky. (spread could also be done as a bear put vertical debit spread)

sell (short) Aug 40 Call $.63/.64
buy (long) Aug 41 Call $.24/.27

credit $.37, risk $1.00-.37=$.63
With 10 contracts, risk $630 to make $370.

From last week, Sat Aug 1, (Q's, $39.45 ) Marco had a bull call vertical debit spread for the Q's that will have a max profit if the Q's close at or above $40. The Q's must close at or above higher end of the spread at expiration to get the maximum profit from the strategy. It is possible to lose 100% of the investment if the Q's close below the lower end of the spread. The spread must be closed out ("sold") to obtain the gain. If Q's go in the direction desired, up, the spread should increase in value to a max of $2.00. (Could also be done as a bull put vertical credit spread)

buy (long) Aug 38 Call $1.80
sell (short) Aug 40 Call $.59

debit $1.21, max gain $2.00- 1.21=$.79

With 10 contracts, risk $1,210 to make $790.
With 2 contracts, risk $242 to make $158.

WHEN DID THIS START?

Can the S&P get down to 600? Gary Shilling thinks it will, and by the end of 2009.

QQQQ STILL GOING

MORE GE JAWIN'

Earlier we talked about Charles Ortel's GE to $2 call. Now here is someone taking him to task and calling for $20. The "debunking" did not convince me and I am still leaning toward the $2 call. But I do like the blogger's solar panel web site.

THE RALLY CONTINUES?

The rally still seems to be ongoing in spite of a lot of negative talk all along the way.
Another good example of trade what is, not what you think.
My long-side watch list has the following (with Friday close);
GDX $38.64
QQQQ $37.56
BAC $12.89
GS $156.84

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/cq?d=v1&s=GDX,QQQQ,BAC,GS

On the opposite side, I still think GE ($11.65) has another big hit coming. The debt versus equity on this thing is ugly. Charles Ortel says its worth $2.00! (See the tech ticker at Yahoo!)
I would be looking for some GE puts as a pure speculation. Because again, its not what I think but what the girls on the street are doing.

Also on the dark side, Gary Shilling, who has a very good track record, thinks the S&P is going to fall 35% to 600 by the end of the year!
He likes treasuries and the dollar!
He says it's deflation we have to worry about, not inflation, "For the next 10 years, we're going to have chronic deflation, and the economy is going to grow at a paltry 2% per year."
Again, some puts on the SPY ($94.13) would be the speculation here. May be a good time to buy now as the market heads higher.

Another dark side call that is very strange is by Nick Guarino who says gold (GLD $91.93) will crash and go to $300. My own thinking is that if deflation is going to be in the cards, gold just might have a problem.

GS

What Happened In May?

What did the QQQQ , XLF, and GDX do in May? Take a look.

Sell in May?

Seems to be a lot of controversy about "sell in May". One of the reasons given for the "rule" is that April tax payments pull money out of the economy and stocks feel the pinch. The thinking this year is that with tax collections down due to the rough economy, the effect on stocks may not be as great as years past . Last year if you sold in May, you did good.

Bear Market Rally

Ashraf Laidi points out a 2-month cycle in the equity markets going back to March 2008. On Friday, March 13th he said "the S&P500 has persistently shown rallies and declines lasting 7-8 weeks. The same rule has applied for the FTSE, DAX and the NIKKEI. ".

If it holds true for the latest Bear Market rally, it should take us into May, and then we might just sell and go away.

"To be rich and live in an exotic land".

"To be rich and live in an exotic land" If I would have known those things came true you wrote in your high school yearbook, I would have been a little more "exotic" in my choice of ambition.

So from here on out I am "trading in luxury", "to be rich and live in an exotic land".
